It’s national library week and we wanted to take time this week to recognize one of our long-standing partners, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library! CSHC and the library have worked together to bring interactive and language-rich story times to hundreds of children across the county. Not only do children enjoy and learn from these activities, our therapists take time to explain to parents how they can incorporate vocabulary building and language expansion techniques into their book reading activities at home. We’ve also offered free speech-language screenings and consultations to parents at various library sites to encourage early identification of children in need of services. Angie Rikard, our Director of Speech-language Services has provided professional development support to all of the library’s children’s staff on active reading and language and literacy skill building multiple times. We’ve also been fortunate to have library staff volunteer for our March Madness for Reading program that delivers books into the homes of children ages 2-5 years. Thanks for the great partnership Charlotte Mecklenburg Library!
