For our first 50 Face – we’re taking it back to the beginning with one of our very first patients – Carol Russ, seen here in this The Charlotte Observer article from 1967. Carol came to CSHC in its early days when her mother’s rubella caused a hearing impairment. After her mother realized that 2 year old Carol hadn’t started talking, CSHC stepped in to help Carol and her family diagnose and treat her hearing loss. Carol’s story is symbolic of what started CSHC in 1967. After the rubella outbreak caused hearing impairments in thousands of children, the incredible and tenacious women of the Junior League of Charlotte came together to create the Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center for pre-school children. 50 years later, we are still serving children and adults with hearing impairments and have grown leaps in bounds in numbers served and lives changed.
